Dr. David Lapen - Government of Canada Science Profile

David Lapen is a research scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada at the Ottawa Research and Development Centre. His current studies revolve around balancing agricultural productivity and environmental quality. Specific emphasis is placed on how natural capital/features govern biodiversity, water resources, greenhouse gas emissions, soil health, crop productivity, and disease infection risks in agricultural landscapes across Canada.

What is your role in the C1W project?

David will contribute to C1W by refining modelling inputs to reflect agricultural management practices/BMPs and by evaluating direct and indirect hydrogeological controls on ecosystem services associated with natural capital.

What benefits do you think C1W will bring to Canada/Canadians?

This project will provide a hydrogeologically holistic modeling platform by which any economic/cultural sector in Canada can assess water related risks associated with climate, and land use changes and define the role of surface water, ground water, and soil water together, on a vast array of ecosystem services for the entirety of Canada.
