    Elder Shirley Horn, First Chancellor of Algoma University, developed a piece of art for the Canada 1 Water website to illustrate the many values of water. “Rivers, lakes, streams, and the mighty oceans all have a rightful place on this planet and should be loved and respected for their sustaining gifts.”

    Elder Shirley Horn is a Cree Elder from Missanabie Cree First Nation. She wrote a reflection about water using her life story as a backdrop.

    “We need water for food, for our economy, for human health and basic survival,” says Steve Frey, director of research at Aquanty and the project’s co-lead on the private-sector side. “We can’t afford to have information gaps. Where they exist, Canada1Water is going to help close them.”
