Dr. Hugh Brendan O’Neill

Brendan is a research scientist working on permafrost at the Geological Survey of Canada. He has a M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Carleton University where he focused on work relating to the formation of ground ice, and ground thermal conditions in the western Arctic, including along the Dempster Highway road embankment. He also worked on Svalbard as a postdoctoral researcher examining ground ice conditions and dynamics of ice-wedge cracking. His current work aims to better characterize ground ice in Canada and examine the effect of climate change on permafrost landscapes.

What is your role in the C1W project?

I will provide advice on permafrost conditions in different regions in Canada and facilitate linkages to available permafrost data. Also, provide advice on process representation in models to improve representation of field conditions.
